Community

Creating music together is a powerful community building experience. There is no culture in the world that does not make music together. However, here in the West, opportunities for group music making which can involve the whole community (regardless of musical experience) seem to be few and far between. What are we missing out on?

Participants in music-based events have reported several beneficial effects – feelings of belonging and inclusion; that their part ‘matters’ to the whole; feeling part of a greater whole – yet still individually creative; ‘rediscovering’ a musical side to themselves that they never knew they had (or worse still, been told that they hadn’t), and above all, a sense of joyful community.
