Young peoples’ thoughts from the drumming workshops

The question was put:

“Why are we drumming when today is all about understanding and diversity? What skills have we just used in making music together that might also be useful when trying to work together with people that are different to us?

The answers they gave were:

co-operation

communication

it’s better when everybody works together

listening to show interest and respect

knowledge and understanding

having fun with people who were from different places, religions, etc

bonding and making friends

everyone needs to be happy/comfortable

listening carefully

listening to the other groups

everyone made a contribution

blending in

understanding each other

the beat shows people working together

listening shows understanding

eye contact is paying attention

all different instruments listen to each other

put ourselves into the rhythm and music

getting to know each other

different parts are important

it’s ok to be yourself

each individual shows a better sound by working together

helping each other

using your own ideas
