Workshops

Art Beat offers the following possibilities for workshops, although most are tailored to the needs of each group:

Interactive Rhythm events
Enabling groups of people to play spontaneous rhythmic music together using drums and percussion. In doing this, there is much more than just music at work, as groups use fundamental co-operative, listening, and communication skills as part of creating successful music together. It is also inclusive of people of any age, background, and ability. This kind of workshop can be used to encourage confidence; participation; valuing of individual contributions- however different; and in team/community-building activities at conferences.

Issue-based work.
An alternative adaptation of this technique is to use the experience as a metaphor to explore ideas. Some examples which have already been engaged in include - freedom and limitations; unity in diversity community; relationships and communication, etc. Again, it is a highly experiential way to examine issues - discussion is based around the first hand experiences offered in the workshop, rather than remaining at the level
of concept.

Access and Participation.
As drums and percussion instruments are some of
the most accessible to play, they are particularly suited to enable an
'entry-point' into musical participation. Workshops can be offered and
adapted to include people of all ages and abilities.
